I'll Play · Mar 7, 11:52 PM

I’ve seen this meme before, but what the hell. Brian Leiter gives us the most recent iteration:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

Here is my sentence [quotation marks in original]:

“If you are determined to win,” Ho Chi Minh is reported to have said, “you will have the wisdom to win; if you are determined to run away, you will have the wisdom to run away.” Hanoi chose to master the wisdom to win. [Marilyn B. Young, The Vietnam Wars 1945-1990.]

  2. Klein is a decision researcher with a Ph.D., a deeply intelligent and thoughtful man, and he wasn’t about to accept that as an answer. [Malcolm Gladwell, Blink.]
